May 8th Pastor Message

Read this week's message from Father Don.

Dear Friends,

Where do you go to find rest amid your busy life? One good place to go is to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

After a long day of driving, texting, working and discussing, quiet time with the eucharist can be very comforting. Entering the church or the chapel, we are able to set aside the burdens and worries of the day and come into the presence of the One who loves us unconditionally. We don’t need to say anything; we can just sit silently before him and let him heal our wounded hearts.

This week the parish held its annual Forty Hours of Eucharistic Adoration, and many parishioners took the opportunity to come in for a gentle visit with the Lord. Beginning in June, we will also have Thursday evening adoration once a month, especially for those who cannot attend the First Friday daytime adoration.

The presence of Jesus in the eucharist sits at the very heart of our parish life. Every Sunday, we gather around the altar as a believing community to encounter Jesus in the scripture, in each other and, above all, in his eucharistic presence. Receiving holy communion, we are given “food for the journey” and the grace of transformation arising from Jesus’ saving sacrifice.

But what if we need Jesus at a time when there is no mass being celebrated? In eucharistic adoration, Jesus makes himself available to us at any time of the day or night. He knows how often we stand in need of his comforting and encouragement and invites us to come and spend time with him whenever we like.

Jesus, gentle Lord, we need your healing presence.

Love,

Fr Don
