Read this week's message from Father Don
Dear Friends,
At the Last Supper, Jesus challenged his followers to imitate his example of humble service. “If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you” (John 13.15).
My Baptist mother took this message to heart. She used to tell me “If you care about Jesus you must get involved with serving the church.” It is a lesson that has shaped my life.
As a teen I did a lot of volunteering. I set up for church gatherings, served tea to the adults, sang Christmas carols at nursing homes, and did gardening for the retired minister. This experience contributed significantly to my decision to embrace a life of priestly service.
A parish provides lots of opportunities to serve. I hope you will seriously consider signing up for a volunteer role at our upcoming Ministry Fair, to be held on the weekend of May 16-17.
Volunteering helps the parish but it also benefits us personally. To become a volunteer is a great way to make friends in the parish and deepen our sense of community belonging. All Saints is a great community and it is even better when we get to know our fellow parishioners through volunteering.
This year let us deepen our parish friendships through volunteering. It will be personally rewarding and help to advance the work of Jesus in the world.
Love,
Fr. Don
