Dear friends,
At long last, work is about to begin on our Campus Master Plan, the long-term strategic document that will outline the vision, goals, and physical development of All Saints Parish. I announced the CMP last September and this week our planning committee finally signed a contract with MOTIV ARCHITECTS to undertake the project.
The first phase will be Vision Clarification. What do we want All Saints Parish to look like in 20 years time? What are the key improvements we desire? My list includes: closer integration between the parish and the school; active engagement with the local community; attracting young families; and building parish friendships. This phase will include consultation with parishioners, the school, our facility users
and the neighborhood.
Next the architects will review the condition of our buildings, our space needs, the policies of the municipality and population projections for the area.
By the end of May, the architects will develop three options for the Campus Master Plan and, after the planning committee has selected the preferred option, will prepare a visual display of that option for presentation at a town hall meeting before the end of June.
A Campus Master Plan offers a high-level vision for future parish development. It does not include detailed building designs or costing, both of which belong to the design phase of specific building projects. While we have no immediate plans for construction, I anticipate that in the next few years the parish will have to construct at least one new building (including a new gym).
In anticipation of this upcoming major expense I encourage you to review the financial support you give to the parish. If you donate monthly on-line, you may wish to increase your monthly donation. Similarly, envelope-users may wish to increase the frequency and/or the amount of their donation.
Construction costs are very high in the lower Mainland and we must expect this to significantly impact the overall cost of a new building on the parish site.
Planning for the future is an essential work in a Catholic parish. Our Campus Master Plan will provide a solid foundation for future parish growth.
